Name: Kai Kahara

Description: Kai is your average guy, maybe a little on the tall side. He's fit but not exactly at athlete-level. He has short black hair, which is always in a mess cuz he doesn't care for it (why would he? he wears a hat), and slightly tannish pale skin. His clothes are simple, yet extremely specific. Aside from his school uniform, a red blazer, which he never buttons up, he only wears black and white. He wears a white hat, black finger-less gloves, a white t-shirt (with a coat over if the weather is cold), and black pants (he hates jeans and never wears them) which fall almost to the ground, regardless of weather, season, or temperature. His shoes are also black and white. His duel disk is nothing special except it shows Life Points in kanji instead of numerals.
Personality: Kai is shy, in a way. He's not afraid to speak his mind, but he has trouble raising his voice. He always has a sort of barrier keeping his thoughts and feelings inside, and keeping the outside world out. This characteristic is reflected in his Defense-based Deck, as well as his behavior in general, in which he tends to drift in his own world and not notice the outside world. He's hard to be friends with, but once he's your friend, you have a loyal, honest, and kind friend for life.
History: Kai was born in Japan, where the Duel Monsters Card game first began. As a child, he'd always just watch the other kids play, cuz he didn't have enough money to buy his own deck, and his parents wouldn't buy him one. Kai finally got his first cards, when his family moved to America when he was 8. In america, they got better jobs and finally had some extra money. They remembered his love for Duel Monsters and Got him a booster pack. Among the cards was his spirit partner, Beast of the Dark Hole, which he considered as his first real friend, and when he found out about BoDH's special power, he sought to collect more cards to find Dark Hole.
When Kai was starting middle school, after his family moved to a new city in the US, he found out many of his classmates actually play Yu-gi-oh, and helped him make a deck. It was a simple, beginner deck, but it was a deck, which is all Kai cared about then. He also learned of professional dueling, which would soon decide his future.
By the end of middle school, he had collected hundreds of cards (thanks to his friends, Alicia and Daimon), and has built his own deck. It was then, he decided he wanted to go into pro dueling, and begged his parents to let him. It wasn't easy, but in the end they agreed and sent him to Duel Academy. As the excellent student he is, Kai aced the entrance exams, but due to his below-average dueling, he ended up in Slifer Red. Arriving at Duel Academy, Kai was quickly introduced to second-year student, Will Marshall, who offered a duel to test out Kai's new deck. After many lucky draws and good moves, Kai was one turn away from winning. But, his record of never winning continued, as Will had drawn MST, winning him the duel.
Afterwards, at his room, he is surprised to find another student, who goes by the name of Theo Downard, inside. Theo introduced himself as Kai's roommate, and hopes to be friends. Kai is still unsure of this.
Spirit Partner: Kai's spirit partner is Beast of the Dark Hole. A level 3 monster with an amazing "clutch" effect. BDH was Kai's first card. Like his owner, BDH is shy except to his closest friends, and is quick to leave the scene. Neither of them is very strong, but they both have great potential when with others.
