((The site is based off of the manga up to chapter 44))
At the ages of ten and eleven two young boys committed the greatest sin known to alchemists, it is a taboo to all, and a crime against the gods. Human transmutation. Now four years later these boys, Edward and Alphonse Elric, are looking for the one thing that may give them back what they lost when they tried to break the very laws of nature itself. Upon their search for this coveted elixir the boys were forced into matters they had no desire to become involved in. The older brother, Edward, was forced to become a state alchemist, earning himself the title of 'Fullmetal', whilst Alphonse whose body was nothing more than an empty shell pledged to follow his dear brother as they searched for the philosophers stone. Things though are never so simple as they may first seen, and indeed very quickly it is discovered that there is a conspiracy, one that threatens Amestris itself.
Within the military though there are those who know of the issues, those who are fighting to rectify all. One such group is that of Colonel Roy Mustang and his cohorts. Said Colonel has the ambition of overthrowing the Fuhrer and taking the power for himself, though not for the reasons one would think. After the war upon a small culture known as Ishval (Ishbal if you will) some within the military left, some simply thought nothing of the massacre. Some however, a rare few, saw there as something being wrong, something that needed to be changed. From these few there were even fewer who were willing to do something about it, yet Mustang and co where some such individuals. Along the way the destinies of these people have become intertwined with that of the Elric brothers, and thus in the threat to the country.
The threat itself is something that could come from fairytales themselves, immortal beasts known as homunculi. These human like creatures are the sins of the world, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Sloth, and finally, Pride. These creatures seek power, they seek to destroy the race they had so passionately, yet they do not wish to do so for themselves, they do so for an even more terrible force, the likes of which has never been seen before. The one they refer to as 'Father'. With powers that far outmatch even the most skilled of alchemists this Father has plans that will ultimately destroy Amestris, leaving it devoid of all life. Yet to do so he needs sacrifices, ones who have seen the truth and are skilled in alchemy, it is perhaps these individuals who are the greatest hope Amestris has. And it is these who must rise against him.
In this war two of the sins have already been destroyed, or rather one has whilst the other is simply out of action. Lust was destroyed when she clashed forces with The Flame Alchemist (Mustang) and lost, whilst Greed, the sin who acted against the others, was take back by Father. Yet at the same time there have also been losses to the protagonists, namely the death of Maes Hughes, and officer killed by the homuculi when he learned to much of their plans. Yet there has also been the loss of Jean Havoc, even if not by death. During the conflict with Lust his spin was damaged, leaving the lower part of his body in a state of paralysis. As such he was sadly forced to leave the fight, though it is entirely possible that he has not done so for good. Who knows?
One thing that is now known, thanks to the older Elric, is that humans can absolutely not be brought back from the dead. His discovery of such was simply a mistake, a small line of confusion cast by his very own father. Whilst in Resembool for repairs upon his automail he met Hohenheim, his father, who despite Edward's protesting accompanied him to the Rockbell's home, where he proceeded to have his automail repaired and spend to night. Whilst there though he heard his father talking, and came to the startling possibility that the creature he and his brother created that night may not have been his mother, and indeed this was the discovery that hit him when he dug up the remains of his creation.
Now the threat of father and the homuculi is getting ever more real, and the promised day is getting ever closer. Whilst some of the homunculi remain unknown no one knows who they can trust, worse yet, no one knows who is human. The time is now coming for those few strong-hearted individuals to rise up and retaliate, if they do not all hope for Amestris and its inhabitants are doomed to a fate that makes death look pleasant.
