With lunch over with and paid for, it was time to burn it all off with some intense training. The focus for this round of training would be, first off, on determining how well these kids could fight. He planned on putting Shikaniku and Inoko against Mai in a two on one fight. Hopefully they could teach her a thing or two about planning ahead instead of just rushing into things. After that he would be working on teaching the kids some various combat techniques they could use. He had a certain technique he wanted to learn as well, and he would help Mai learn it at the same time. It would be great
His two students, meanwhile, were busy trying to scout out a shady place to train. If they were going to fight, at least they wanted to do it comfortable. But not too many shady trees. If Shikaniku was going to take full advantage of his techniques, they needed the sun. He made sure that it was to his back before collapsing on the ground and yawning.
"So then, we got to fight Mai. I always get paired up with the girls." Shikanik sighed.
"Got something against girls Shika?" She asked, leaning against a nearby tree.
"Not at all. It's just always so troublesome to deal with them. Say the wrong thing and they bop you in the head."
Inoko rolled her eyes, ignoring the fact that she was the kind of girl that he was talking about. They just remained silent, hoping to take advantage of the break to rest before...training.

(I have to make it quick, I have to leave in a few. But i`ll be back later)
When Mai showed up she noticed her team mates in the shade. Now she didnt know either one of her new team mates all that well but that didnt mean she didnt know what they could do, and what she would be up against. The Nara had a brain, and would probably find some way to trick he. If he caught her in a shadow then Inoko could attack her. So she decided to look around and see what she had to work with, after Yuuto had suggested that she be more observant. Mai noticed the trees and a couple of larger rocks in the middle of the fighting area. Even though they wouldnt be of any use, it was still nice to know where they were.
She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at the other three. Eager to get to the taijutsu training she wanted to get this little spar over as soon as possible, but she couldnt use any of her deadly techniques since killing Inoko and Shikaniku wouldnt be good at all.
"So... should we get this thing started? Kind of eager to get to the training, so lets make it quick shall we?" Mai said waiting for either one of them to attack. She didnt want to make the first move this time, but she wanted to see a demo of what the other two could do.

"DYNAMIC ENTRY!" was Mai's response to asking who should start the sparring match. Hojo purposely missed Mai, landing on the ground nearby before quickly to turn towards her. Standing up, he mixed a smile with a look of concern.
"Mai, that's not the way to start a battle. Enemy ninja aren't going to be so noble. In fact, you're enemies are going to be more like how your teammates are acting right now. --------------
Shikaniku and Inoko jumped a little in fright as Hojo flew by them. They were used to his entrances being so dramatic, but it still scared them a little if they weren't paying attention to them. However, the distraction he provided gave them a chance to act. Mai would be distracted
Observing the field, Shikaniku was glad. The topography was perfect for his jutsu as the shadows of the trees and rocks provided plenty of movement options for him. Mai wouldn't have many safe places to hide. However, his view wasn't complete, and he quickly told Inoko to move onto the other side. She disappeared into the woods, but it didn't worry him. Her Telepathy technique would allow her to contact him and tell him Mai's movements. Information was the key to victory.
Alright then, let's see what this girl's got.
He formed the handseal that the Nara clan was infamous for, and soon his shadow began to shoot straight towards Mai. However, it took some small detours into the rocks, using their shadows to lengthen its range. It would save time later should the need arise.

Hojo wasnt really much of a distraction when he landed right next to her. Actually she was kind of expecting it, Hojo seemed a lot like how Sasuke described Lee who trained Hojo so a dynamic entery was to be expected. She didnt really say much in response of his comment. But facing the leaf village`s most intelligent clan, luckily enough the Uchiha clan was known for being the most powerful. Hopefully some of Sasuke`s intelligence would rub off on her now, and boy did she ever need it. Yuuto`s training had helped quite a bit, she was faster and stronger and that was for sure.
Mai quickly kept her focus on the other two, her sharingan stayed fixed on the movements of Inoko and once she locked onto her location she glanced at Shikaiku he was the bigger threat at this point, unless Hojo decided to join in though then she`d have problems. But now she needed a distraction on her own, hopefully Hojo would be wise and get out of the way. Mai had a slight advantage, neither of them knew all of the abilities that she could have. The Uchiha clan jutsu maybe, but anything else was a mystery. Mai weaved a string of hand seals and put her index finger and thumb together then took a deep breath. When she released her breath a huge blast of fire engulfed the area around her as she turned her body clockwise, allowing her to hide herself in the middle of it so she could think up her next move. Slinging fire probably wasnt the best idea, but she doubted it would burn down the forest or get anywhere near it. Mai kept the fire pretty under control.

With the battle started Hojo had no need to stand in the middle of it all and safely retreated to the safety of the sidelines to watch. The first move was Shikaniku's, though he thought it odd he went straight on the attack. He was probably just wanting to see what Mai would do.
Shikaniku stood back a little from the flames, but apparently they were just being used as a shield. However, the flames also caught some of the dead wood on the forest floor, something that would end up helping him. Flames created light, and the more light the shadows. The entire field was starting to get covered in them, a perfect situation for him as it gave him almost complete access to the field. And with Inoko as his eyes, he had a good idea of how the field was as well. His Shadow Imitation technique was still going towards her.*
Inoko hid behind a rock, knowing that with fire jutsus were a common jutsu used by the Uchiha. It would be a bad idea to stand in trees with flames everywhere. She really didn't see much of a need to do anything, so she simply stood ready in case of changes in events.
*Since you didn't explain what happened to it in your post, I assume it hasn't completed so he wouldn't need to use chakra again.

By the time the flames died down Mai had already formed a plan in her mind, but doubted that such a thing would actually work. Her luck was terrible and knew that one of her team mates would find some way to snag her in a trap. But it was worth a shot, it wasnt like her life depended on the outcome of the battle anyways. Hopefully her little hidden plans would work out, it would be nice to win a battle for once and make a good impression on her teammates.
She knew that Shikaniku was her biggest problem, so taking him out would be her best bet. Mai glanced down and saw that the shadow was only a couple of feet away from her. The Uchiha quickly leapt out of the way and quickly grabbed her chakra knives. After doing quite a bit of ninjutsu training she wanted to show off some of her taijutsu skills. Mai let the blue colored chakra flood through the knives. She charged at Shikaniku and once she got close she slashed the chakra knives at him.

From her position behind Mai, Inoko was able to see her charge up the knives and begin to rush Shikaniku before he could. She quickly formed a handseal and began to concentrate, reaching out for the mental connection needed to contact a person through the use of Telepathy Technique. She warned him of the attack, giving him time to make his own counter plan. Still, he was slower than her, so he still got a nice cut on his arm from her chakra knives as he moved out of the way. Once in position he sent out another shadow, though he moved so it would come at her from the side. He was trying to nudge her towards Inoko.
Inoko noticed this, and knew what he was trying to do. Grabbing her kunai, she cut of a small bit of her hair at the tip of her ponytail. Enough to get a handful, but not enough to ruin it. She threw it out towards the ground, waiting for Mai to step on it.

Mai quickly glanced down once she sliced Shikaniku`s arm, now she felt a little guilty about it. But still, they were sure to get her good soon enough. The chakra surrounding her blades retracted a bit, so she didnt accidentally slice anybody`s head off. Mai was pretty much cornered. She knew what would happen if she got caught by the shadow, but what was the deal with Inoko`s hair. The Uchiha hardly noticed it, but it was kind of hard to miss blond hairs on the dirt covered ground. Luckily she was always one step ahead thanks to her sharingan, and the extra training helped out a lot too, when she was sure she could move without touching anything she quickly jumped out of the way. Mai just had to keep this up for a little bit longer, both of her team mates looked like they were already getting a little low on chakra.
She remembered a time when she was first learning the fireball jutsu, Sasuke had warned her to tie her hair back for the first couple of tries but Mai was much too stubborn to listen. She preformed that jutsu and a couple of strands caught fire. Thats it! She preformed her string of hand signs then blew a small fireball at the hair, after nearly tripping over her feet to get out of the way, then she watched it catch on fire. And then Mai made her escape. If she wanted to turn this two on one fight around she`d have to start attacking both of them at. Thankfully if anything went wrong she had her backup plan that she was just dying to show off.
"How much longer can you guys keep up?" Mai asked them, raising an eyebrow. She was tempted to ask what else they could do, the young Uchiha was quite curious about her teammates now. Mai flipped herself backwards onto her hands then flipped the rest of the way back onto her feet, landing near to her starting place out of the shade of the trees. Her eyes glanced to the rocks, then to the slightly charred trees, then back to Hojo as she wondered what he was thinking.
"Just curious, but what are you going to teach us after this? If we want to train we shouldnt get beat up too badly."

((They aren't that low on chakra -_-))
Inoko grumbled a little bit about the wasting of her hair as they burned. She was glad that it wasn't a massive amount though. At least she still had a full set of hair after this. Still, it meant Mai could stood move, and that she had no other role at the moment.
Shikaniku was glad to have some relief, but he was going to have to try and catch Mai somehow if this match was going to end. About the only bright side so far was that the constant flames provided a source of light for him to use so he didn't have to worry about running out of shadows. Still, staying to the ground was starting to not work out effectively. He needed to be a bit more proactive.
"Inoko, why don't you show her the Yamanaka Clan's infamous technique?" He yelled out to his partner. He was sort of referring to the Mind Body Change Technique. Inoko got the message, and got into the pose needed to activate the technique. However, she didn't activate it. Instead, she planned on another technique; the Psychic Wave technique. It didn't have to be precise, and if it hit Mai would be disoriented. And if it didn't, Shikaniku had a bit of a surprise.
As Inoko prepared the Psychic Wave attack, Shikaniku had begun to slowly move his shadow towards Mai. He made sure to keep it within the natural shadows of the forest, and he hoped the Sharingan couldn't pick out the slight change in tone that occured when his shadow met another. The shadow, however, wasn't a normal Shadow Imitation jutsu. Instead, he was using the Shadow Sewing technique. If Mai moved to get out of the way of the Psychic Wave, he would send it straight out at her while she was vulnerable in the air. If everything worked out, she'd be caught in one of their techniques.

(Compared to Mai they are xP )
When she got no answer from Hojo or her team mates Mai put herself back on the defense. Her eyes located Inoko`s new place, then found Shikaniku once again. Trapped again, but this time she couldnt see the shadow lurking behind her, her sharingan wasnt that advanced just yet. This was just turning into a game of cat and mouse, Mai was the mouse and the other two were the cats. But Mai figured that she`d be a good addition to the team, it seemed like the other two only had long range attacks and hardly any ninjutsu. Mai would probably end up being offensive part of the team. No wonder Hojo wanted them to train their butts off in Taijutsu.
At this point, all Mai was doing was trying to figure out their techniques. She had no idea what Inoko`s could possibly do, so she decided that she`d rather be caught in that trap. But she was a little disappointed when all she got was a nasty headache. Strangely enough Mai didnt leave her spot. Instead she laughed.
"You guys are good, I`ll admit. I`m glad I was put on a team with you guys." Mai announced, then she moved... too close to the shadows. Shikaniku`s shadow snagged her and she was froze in her place. But the first thing that wandered through her mind was if Hojo sensei still had his training weights, if he did Mai wanted to borrow them for her training.

"Alright then, I believe that Mai here's got the point." Hojo said as he pushed himself off the tree and back into the battlefield. Shikaniku was still in his possession pose, and Inoko was about ready to perform the Mind Body Change technique.
"What, but sensei, we were about to win!" Inoko responded, pouting a little as she stood up. Shikaniku just sighed and broke off his handseal, causing his shadow to retreat and allowing Mai to be free again.
"It wasn't about winning, it was about Mai getting to know just how you two work. And let her know we won't be accepting anyone who can't work as a team. I know you like to show off a bit at times Mai." He said, switching attention from his students to Mai.
"Well as long as we get a chance to take a break," was all Shikaniku had to say about it as he collapsed onto the ground. He was glad it was over as fighting was just troublesome. Still, he knew that this wasn't over. Hojo probably had something up his sleeve. He was right.
"Now that we got ourselves warmed up, its time to reveal what we'll be doing. First off, you Shikaniku."
Shikaniku stood up, a bit surprised about him being the first to be chosen. He'd rather be napping, but if he was going to be here he might as well learn.
"After talking with your father, he decided it best that you learn the Shadow Strike technique to start off with."
Shikaniku nodded. He knew what technique Hojo was talking about. It was a Nara clan technique that used the shadows to 'punch' the opponent. They didn't get physically damaged, but they felt the sensation of it. Nothing hard, but he was surprised that he wasn't having to learn a taijutsu technique yet.
"As for you Inoko, your parents mentioned some techniques they thought that you would enjoy. We'll start off with the One Hundred Blossoming Flowers techniques. They thought it would add a little punch to your jutsu techniques."
Inoko didn't think it bad. All the years in the flower shop had really endured her to them, and techniques using flowers would just look awesome. Especially since the technique he mentioned involved explosive flowers.
"And for you Mai, I want you to help me with a technique. It's called Dynamic Punch. It sort of follows the same pattern as Chidori, so I thought it would be a good place to start."

"Aww man! I was just getting started!" Mai complained as she suddenly disappeared in a cloud of smoke. One of the rocks began to move and Mai appeared seated on the ground. She scratched her head as she stared up at them, Mai crossed her arms. During the time she had hid herself in the flames, she took the time to make a clone of herself to stand in her place while she disguised herself as a rock. Mai couldnt think of anything better at the time, and luckily it worked. She had both of them in her trap.
"Man I love using shadow clones, I totally got you two." The Uchiha got up onto her feet and listened to Hojo tell them what they were all going to do. When Hojo spoke to the other two she hardly listened, but when her name came up again she did her best to pay attention.
"Sounds good to me! Show me what to do."

"Okay then, so is everyone ready to get to work?" Hojo asked. Shikanikue mumbled out a fine, but Inoko looked a little bit more excited to learn her technique. The two of them walked off to begin practicing while Hojo stayed with Mai.
"Alright then Mai, I hope I got this straight. Dynamic Punch is a taijutsu attack, but it uses chakra. It works with a Fire release user, which should be no problem considering you're a Uchiha. From my understanding, the user has to focus chakra into their arms. Unlike Chidori, there is only a small charge time, and you release it in a massive burst upon contact. It should go something like this."
Hojo took a moment to get a steady breathing pattern before taking up the usual Iron Fist stance. He then brought his arm back, and began to focus his chakra into it. His arm began to feel a little funny, but he assumed it was the flow of chakra in his arm. It had a heated feeling to it, most likely from the fire release. He then swung his arm in a punch, letting go of the chakra. A massive, fiery burst erupted, but once the smoke cleared he had barely made a dent in the wood of the tree.
"As you can see, the size of the flame isn't that important. Sure, I can release it, but its a rather weak, unconcentrated form. Looks great, punches weak."
-----------------------------
Shikaniku and Inoko were off on their own for training. Hojo couldn't really help much outside of taijutsu techniques. They were on their own.
"Hojo sensei sure has been spending a lot of energy on that Mai girl." Inoko mentioned.
"Heh, just excited about a new team member, that's all. We aren't that exciting or energetic." Shikaniku replied.
Shikaniku was off in the sunlight in order to maximize his shadow's length. Inoko was in a small field of flowers just for the heck of it. They were about to begin practicing their jutsus. Shikaniku started off by crouching, moving his hand into the Rat handseal. He started to focus chakra into his shadow, and began to move it around. To start off with he worked by moving it around some. He didn't want to waste too much chakra right of the back. If he had no chakra left, then he couldn't practice the technique.
Inoko, meanwhile, began to focus her chakra on the various flowers around her. Unlike Shikaniku, who only had to focus on one object, she had to focus on several. She tried to control the flowers, but it was too much strain for her. Eventually she decided to focus on one flower instead of all of them. This was more successful, and soon it began to rise into the air. The trip was shaky, and it only floated for a moment, but eventually it fell to the ground.
"I guess thats some kind of progress. Not the explosive power I thought it would have." She said, placing her hands on her hip.
"You only started the technique. Once you use your chakra to get it airborne you have to add more chakra to make it explosive." Shikanikue replied as he finally let his shadow leave the ground.
It formed into a very small fist, no larger than a babies. It was a start, but the next thing he knew it was flying into him. Even with the knowledge that it didn't leave any physical signs, it still hurt a bit.
"Well, your shadow took care of you for me it seems." Inoko said with a bit of a girlish giggle.

Mai watched everything he did with a careful eye, focusing chakra to her hands wasnt much of a problem for her anymore. She took a moment to put her chakra knives back in her pouch so they didnt get in the way, Mai could play around with them more later. The genin copied her sensei`s stance and did everything he did. She brought her fist back to her hip and took a deep breath. The fiery feeling was not much different from the lightning she often used. When she thought it was ready to release she threw her punch, but it was about at the same level as Hojo`s. Hardly even a dent.
"I`ve got an idea." She told him, then made the tiger hand seal. Two clones popped up along side of her. "The more the merrier right? Master Yuuto told me that If I had clones do the same training I could master it much much sooner.
The two clones quickly copied the same stances as before, waiting for a moment before releasing their punches upon the tree.
"Are you learning this for the first time too Hojo sensei? Or is that all its supposed to do?"

"It's not that hard of a technique to learn, so stick with it by yourself. Besides, don't want to waste all your chakra on clones. Then you won't have any left for the technique."
With that Hojo got into position for the technique once again. This time, however, he focused the chakra into the lower half of his arms only. Before, he had done it in the entirety of his arm, but if he did it in a smaller area the power would be more focused. The only question was would the concentration be good enough to gain the needed power. He swung at the same tree again, and saved the release of power for just before it hit. Again, the flames were spectacular in look, and the damage looked bigger. It was all over the tree, but the depth wasn't that great. Hojo drew back his arm and sighed.
"Well, it was a bit more powerful, but it wouldn't be fatal. Got more flames on the enemy, but it still isn't that concentrated. Still, once I get it down it'll look great. Nice finisher move."
------------------
With the imaginary pain of the attack gone, Shikaniku started to once again concentrate on the technique. Crouching down and placing his hand in the Rat handseal, he started to move his shadow again. Like before, he just played around a little on the ground before he moved the shadows into the air. He didn't form it into a fist. He just wanted to see what kind of range he could get. It stopped right before it got to Inoko. Satisfied, he drew it back and then launched it again. This time he formed it into a fist, and it looked about the size of a child's fist. He then held it on that form as long as possible, making sure to not it himself with it like last time. He was unable to hold it for long before he had to withdraw his shadow.
Inoko, meanwhile, wasn't having as much luck as Shikaniku when it came to her technique. Her flower barely made a flight, and she was going to have to do it with a lot more flowers to be any use. Still, she wasn't going to let Shikaniku or Mai best her, so she started to work right away. Focusing her chakra on the flowers around was too hard, so she decided to work indirectly. She sent chakra out from her feet, which was easier, and then into the flowers through the roots in the ground. It seemed to work, as she swore she could feel control over several more flowers. Now all she had to do was lift them into the air. Focusing on them as much as possible, she started to lift them up into the air slowly, one by one. Like before, they were wobbly, but she was making better progress than before. Still, they fell after only a few seconds.
