((Sorry the lateness. Uhm, do mind adding a little more to that, with Mai catching up. Then I can probably post something worthwhile)).

Hojo listened worriedly as Daisuke stopped talking, and looked as if he had fallen asleep. Of course, considering the situation, it would be a safe assumption he hadnÂft just fallen asleep. Stopping, Hojo gently lowered the Uchiha off of his back and onto the ground. Placing two fingers on his neck, Hojo waited to see if he could feel a pulse. A slow, but steady bumping against his fingers told him that the kid was still alive, but for how much longer was a different question.
Mai arrived on the scene just in time to find Hojo carefully placing Daisuke on his back. Hojo heard her voice, and glanced over behind him to see if she really had made it. He let out a deep sigh of relief. Daisuke was still alive, and Mai had gotten out of the cave. She seemed to be rather torn up from it, but she was still living at least.
"Well, he still has a pulse, which is a good sign at least. Otherwise I have no clue what his condition is. We'll head straight to the hospital once we get back. Lucky the cult was near the city, so we can hopefully still make it."
Hojo started up again, trying to convey some sense of control over the situation. In reality, he didn't have a clue what he was going to do. The mission, while a success, was much more damaging than he thought it would end up being. Knowing Mai, she probably went to some level of the Nine-Tailed on the woman, and Daisuke was on the verge of death. If he died, he had no clue what would happen to the girl, or the rest of the Uchiha's for that matter. They were a barely surviving clan, and loosing one of their own would be a massive problem for them. It would leave Mai as one of the few Uchiha left.
"Hey Mai, tell me, when you were in there did you draw on any of the Nine-Tailed Fox's power?" he asked rather solemnly.

Darkness. Every word spoken by either of the other ninja were nothing but a distant and faint whisper. The only thing he could hear clearly was the last few beats of his own hear, ringing through his ears. He couldn`t feel the touch of Hojo`s cold fingers on his neck, the only thing he could feel was the failure. Daisuke had horribly failed this mission, it was his fault that his team mates, his own sister, were put into a mortal danger like that. Everything was his fault... Even his dweeby little sister could do better than he could have, Mai was the only thing that made that mission succeed.
Daisuke`s eyes strained open, the sunlight burned his watery eyes, forcing them shut. A moment later, Daisuke forced his eyes open again, even if they werent open more than a sliver. All he saw was a blue and red blur, which must have been Mai, hovering over him. But to his surprise, Daisuke felt his sisters tears on his face.
Mai knew what was to come, they were so close, yet so far from the hospital. Her head was planted in her hands, it had to be her fault... everything was her fault. If she would have acted faster, Daisuke would be smiling and patting her on the back, telling her that they could go to Ichiraku later that evening... and Sasuke might`ve joined too.
"Shhhh..." Daisuke hissed, blood spurted from his mouth, his voice was so quiet and faint that Mai could barely hear. She dropped to her knees besides him, swooping her head closer so she might have a chance at hearing his last words. "Dont worry Mai.... y-you did good... and i`m.... i`m going to a good... place... Tell father.... th.. i`m... sorry..."
The younger Uchiha noticed Daisuke`s cheeky little grin, and she laughed a bit through her tears, though it sounded more like she was choking. Daisuke had been much more of a father than Sasuke ever had, her older brother had taught her almost everything that she knew. Daisuke`s hand fell open, revealing a tiny little Uchiha crest pin. Earlier that week he had them custom made so that they could wear them on their Chuunin vests while they were on missions. They were Daisuke`s last gift to her before they went their separate ways, but who would have guess they`d be parting in this way...
Mai carefully picked up the little pin and pinned it to her vest, she noticed Daisuke`s was already on his own chuunin vest. It was then she felt the burning urge for revenge, the same feeling her father must have felt a long time ago. Mai had gotten her revenge, still, she felt the anger tearing at her.
When Hojo asked her a question, she answered with a scowl. How could he be asking her questions about what had happened, when her brother had just died. If he was just going to stand around and question her, she was out of there. Mai attempted to lift her brother several times, until she finally got him over her shoulder. It didnt seem like Hojo had done anything in the cave at all, and Mai hated him for it. From what she remembered, Hojo got in one... maybe two attacks, Daisuke and Mai did everything else. So if anyone should have died, they should be carrying his body to the hospital, not Daisuke`s. Of course, her judgement and ability to understand the situation was under attack by the loss of her brother.
"Y-you... You didn`t do anything! You just stood around and let Daisuke die! I hate you!" Mai shifted Daisuke`s body a bit and darted off as fast as she could. Daisuke exhaled one last time before he finally died.
Daisuke awoke to the brightly lit area, the light was blinding him. He felt as light as a feather, and his pain had melted away in a split second. Daisuke looked himself over, no blood or a wound, he was in perfect condition. When he heard somebody clear their throat, Daisuke spun around only to see his father standing there, with his hand on Mai`s shoulder. Both of them seemed fine. Daisuke closed his eyes, grinned, and bowed his head.
"Sorry, but it looks like I have to go a little bit sooner than I planned." He told them, Daisuke lifted his head. Both of the other Uchiha stood before him, Mai quickly pulled him in for a hug. Sasuke sucked up his pride as much as possible and hugged Daisuke too.
"Do you really have to go Daisuke? Everybody in Konoha is going to miss you." Mai asked with her normal bluntness. She tilted her head a bit and raised an eyebrow.
Daisuke laughed and ruffled up her hair. Out of everybody in the world, Daisuke would miss Mai most of all. She had showed him that it was possible to be his own self, and that had been the most important thing he had ever learned. Just be yourself, Mai would always tell him when ever he would slip into their fathers shadow. Mai was so strong, in strength and spirit.
"Unfortunately I do Mai. I`ll be fine though, take care of the world for me, wont you Mai? You helped me understand so much in life, even if you dont think you did a single thing for me. I know that one day, it might be tomorrow, a month from now, or even a year, you`ll be the big hero you`ve always dreamed of being. You`ll change Konoha, as Naruto did, and you`ll change hundreds of lives. Never give up, never surrender, and never forget who you are." Daisuke asked, Mai nodded her head and smiled. "Thank you Mai, and good bye."
He turned away, everybody he knew in Konoha formed a line which led the way. Once again Daisuke shut his eyes and headed off, knowing that everything would be okay. When he turned around again, everything faded to black.
(Sorry for the bit of cheesiness at the end, I just wanted Daisuke to die on a happier note. )
