Mai locked up her legs so it became much much harder to drag her home. Sasuke would easily be able to tell what was wrong with her, so she wanted to avoid her father as much as possible right now. Mai felt like somebody was following them, and spying. She quickly looked in every direction but didnt see anybody she knew.
"No noooo dont take me home! My dad wont know what to do, I just think that i`m a little nervous or something." Mai replied, "I always hang out with guys that are practically like my brothers, I`m not used to hanging out with somebody I dont know so well."

"But Douke-san always hangs out with strangers, and I don't get nervous at all?" He replied, letting go of Mai's hand since apparently any physical contact he made with her just made her feel worse.
"Why should I be making you nervous Mai-chan?" He asked, head titlted a little to signify confusion since his mask prevented it from being shown on his face.

Mai straitened herself out and glanced up as if she was thinking about the question. She didnt understand why she was so nervous around him, for a moment she almost wished that Inoko had tagged along and blurted out an answer. The uchiha didnt even know what to say.
"I dont know Douke, I really dont know." She replied, then she glanced around again taking back her thought about somebody blurting out why she was so nervous around him. But her luck was terrible so somebody was probably going to say something that would make her want to die on the inside.

"Aw, come on Mai, I think everyone can see why." Inoko replied as she 'casually' walked up behind Mai. Seeing Mai say 'I don't know' was just a perfect chance for her to give the two a little 'push'. She leaned in close and whispered an answer for Mai's question.
"It's because you like him, don't you?" She said before pulling back and giggling a little. Douke just stood there, confused. He had heard what she said, since he was right next to Mai and had been trained for good hearing like any good ninja.
"Of course Mai likes me. She's my friend. Aren't friends supposed to like each other?" He asked, causing Inoko to give him a 'you're an idiot, aren't you?' glare. However, she didn't even bother to explain it to him because he obviously didn't seem like the person who would.

Mai stared at him all wide eyed when she heard Inoko`s voice. It was just her luck that she had been stalking them, but when she blurted out that she might like him... well it all clicked in her head. She was never that nervous around anybody, but she really really liked Douke because she could relate to his bubblyness. But thinking about Douke in a romantic way almost made her laugh, Mai didnt think that Douke would ever take a romantic relationship seriously.
"Maybe I do maybe I dont." Mai crossed her arms and got into her defensive, closed up post. She seemed to close up quickly as she eyes Inoko, then glanced at Douke.

"Okay, Douke-san is confused." He said, trying to make sense of the situation. Mai was a friend, and for that to be true, Mai had to like him. But Mai was acting like she didn't like him, but said she may or may not like him. Did that mean that Mai wasn't sure if she wanted to be his friend? He had to have missed something down the line.
"It's a girl thing Douke. I'm sure you wouldn't understand just yet." She replied before turning her attention back to Mai.
"No need to get defensive Mai. I mean, I could see why you like him. He's almost like you'd probably been like if you were a guy, except taken to whole nother level." She said before hanging her arm around Mai and pulling her close.
"Besides, I think you two look pretty cute together, what with you looking as pale as a ghost and him thiinking you were sick."

Mai always faced things head first, so why was she resisting saying a couple of simple words so much? It was almost more embarrassing to seem so nervous than it was to actually like the guy that she hardly knew. Mai took a deep breath, then exhaled. Figuring that Douke wouldnt understand anyways.
"What I mean is that I like you, like you. Like more than a friend, that kind of thing? You probably dont understand."

"Like me more than a friend? Like a best friend? Or are you meaning a boyfriend?" Douke responded, wanting to know what level of friend Mai was considering.
Inoko's eyes grew wide when she heard him say boyfriend. Out of everyone she knew, Douke was the last person she thought would have known the word. Of course, he still had to demonstrate that he knew what the word meant, but the fact that he had at least heard of the word just made Mai's little confession all the much better.
This is so much better than working at the flower shop.

Mai glanced away from Douke for a moment and kicked up a little bit of dirt. She hardly knew what to say now that it was so awkward. And what made it even worse was that Douke knew the word boyfriend, which quite frankly scared the hell out of her. But then again it could make this a bit easier. Rejection was probably the only thing that Mai really hated with a fiery passion, and she really didnt want to make her friendship would Douke any weirder than it already was.
"Uh.. U-uhhh... the um..... second one..." Mai whispered quietly, she looked to Inoko for some kind of help.

Inoko just gave a 'don't look at me' look. She thought the situation ironic though. Just the other day she had been yelling at Shikaniku about him being cautious and how being assertive was better. And yet here she was, in a perfect place to prove it, and she couldn't pull it off. She went the cautious route, just like Shikaniku. If he were here right now, and actually cared enough, he'd be enjoying the irony.
"So Mai-chan considers herself Douke-san's best friend? Then I am okay with that. Douke-san is glad that Mai-chan's his best friend." He said before giving her a friendly hug to help seal the deal.

A large sweat drop rolled down the side of Mai`s face as Douke hugged her, she had meant to say the third one but at this point she was almost glad she didnt. Mai glanced at Inoko again with a glare as if to say 'thanks for the help'. She stuck her tongue out at her team mate. Mai sighed though, Douke would probably NEVER understand.
"imeantthethirdone..."Mai grumbled quietly, then she sniffed him for some reason, "Douke, you smell nice."

"You smell nice too Mai-chan." Douke replied, although Inoko doubted he could actually smell anything with that mask on.
Douke eventually pulled back, and thought over Mai's words. Even garbled and spoken quietly, he had understood she had said 'I meant the third one." And from the list he had made, the third one was boyfriend. Mai-chan wanted him to be her boyfriend? From everything he knew, that seemed a bit quick. But he had never been anyone's boyfriend, and from what he understood, it was supposed to be fun. Unless you broke up, and then it became very, very painful. So he'd just have to make sure to avoid that part.
"So Mai-chan wants Douke-san to be her boyfriend? Then I'll gladly be your boyfriend Mai-chan." He added.
Inoko was on the verge of fainting from shock. When all this started, she thought she'd just get to watch Mai be embarrassed for awhile, and then tease her about it later. But now she had just gotten a boyfriend. Sure, the guy was a few handseals short of a jutsu, but still, she had beaten her once again in a 'competition'. Yes, she knew dating was a competition, but in her mind, she had wanted to beat Mai to getting a date. It was the only thing she had thought herself good at, and Mai just stumbled right into it.

Mai had started the let her nerves cool down when Douke said he would be happy to be her boyfriend. Her eyes, which had started to become droopy with failure, shot open. But something told her that Inoko wouldnt be pleased, and she slyly glanced over at her with a grin.
"Really Douke? Have you ever had a girlfriend? Oh Douke it`ll be so much fun! You, me, endless bowls of ramen. Although you`ll probably have to pass some kind of inspection from my father... but i`m sure my dad will just love you!" Mai seemed just too excited for her own good. She would have jumped up and down if she wasnt still hugging Douke.

Inoko had a feeling that to Douke, being a boyfriend was like being a friend with benefits. She didn't think he really understood what he was getting into, especially considering who Mai's father was. Still, she couldn't control their lives, just influence.
But the idea that Mai just blindly got a boyfriend had made her mad. She had been trying for at least a year to do it, and she had done it in weeks. Then again, just about any girl could have gotten Douke to agree if they asked nice enough.
"Well, congrats Mai. Hope the two of you have fun. I'm going to go find Shikaniku and see what he's up to. Don't worry, I won't tell him about you too...yet."
"Mai-chan, Inoko spends a lot of time with Shikaniku. Is she his boyfriend."
SMACK.
Douke went down, and for a moment his eyes were swirling just like his mask design. Apparently Inoko didn't take kindly to the comment, and stormed off. There was no way that lazy bum would be her boyfriend. A friend, yes, but not a boyfriend.
"Douke-san suspects Inoko did not want him saying that." He said, groaning a little bit before standing up.
"I'm okay."

When Inoko smacked Douke she got really defensive. She would have started a fight with her team mate but by the time she went to make sure Douke was okay to turn back around and yell her brains out it was too late to do anything. Mai would have to get Inoko back later, she grumbled quietly to herself and began to dust Douke off.
"Are you sure that nasty blonde didnt hurt you?" Mai asked, checking him over again to make sure he wasnt too banged up, "Shes just jealous that I`ve got a wonderful boyfriend and she doesnt. But if she ever hits you again let me know, i`ll get her back."
Mai thought about all of the different ways she could have gotten Inoko back, perhaps burning all of the flowers in her flower shop would do?
