Ishimaru just quietly sat there and listened to her speak. When she was done, he stayed silent. He wasn't really sure what to say. Unlike her, he didn't seem to mind spending most of his childhood training. And since he wasn't the Avatar, he couldn't relate to the responsibilty and pressures that went with that. Finally, he didn't want to say sorry about the negative aspects of her life, because that wouldn't help anything at all. It was over and done with.
"No need to say sorry about my mother. I've accepted that she is dead, and would rather not discuss it. Anyway, I have to say that I don't think that really helped. Then again, we just kind of did the shorthand version of our lives. What other kind of stuff do people who are in love talk about?"

Avani had to think about the question for a minute, she tried to remember back to what her parents would talk about that sounded like they really really cared about eachother. The simple things seemed to stand out much more than the really over the top lovey dovy ones.
"They talk about a lot of personal things..."

"But we just talked about our lives. How much more personal can we get?" Ishimaru asked.
This was starting to become a real pain. What sort of people would make a cave where one had to be in love for you to get through it. Did that mean anyone who wasn't in love had to suffer and perish in it?

Avani scratched her head, she couldnt think of anything really personal to share with him, but for some reason she didnt think it would even work if they continued. She swung her feet back and forth while she thought of what to do next, but she gazed up at the statues looming above them instead.
"Why did the monks send you to travel with me? I know that your mother died, but they had to have a different reason."

"You really think that we're very deep. Admittedly, on a spiritual sense, we might be, but when it comes to the affairs of the world, we aren't." Ishimaru replied. He knew that sounded cryptic, so he continued on.
"After my mother died, I began to heavily meditate and study. I guess I must have been trying to make sense of it all. Any way, the monks thought that travelling with you would cause me to, how do say, loosen up a bit and try to enjoy myself for once. And to a degree, I think it's working. I've been enjoying my time with you very much."
It took a moment for Ishimaru to realize the implications of what he just said. When he did, his face turned red, and he quickly stood up and started bowing, speaking rather rapidly.
"I'm sorry, I hope you don't take that the wrong way. I meant to say I've been enjoying my with as a friend, not a romantic interest...wait, isn't that what we're trying to do. Oh, I hate social interactions. They're so confusing."
As he finished, Ishimaru sat down on the ground and placed his head in his hands. There must have been a lack of oxygen or something in the cave, because by this point his mind was getting rather messed up. He was confused, and had just about no clue what it was he was doing. They had to get out of here one way or another. Glancing at the torch, he noticed that it was starting to dim.

"Does your head hurt Ishimaru?"
Avani quietly slid off her seat on the edge of the statues and seated herself next to him. She was hesitant to get to close to him right then, but it wouldnt have made the awkward situation any worse than it already was. The avatar placed her hand on his shoulder and lowered her head so if he looked at her they would be face to face.
"You do talk a little more than you used to, but you dont seem very happy traveling around with us. I`m glad to hear that you`ve been enjoying your time with me, I`ve really been enjoying it too." Avani too we starting to notice the torch going out, they could still talk in the dark.

"Just a little. Guess the frustration is getting to me a little." He said, not really noticing that she had gotten in front of him, till she placed her hand on his shoulder. It would be really easy now for Avani to notice the blushing on his face.
In the back of his head, Ishimaru realized that this would probabably be the best time to try something. The dimmed lights were something he had heard to be 'romantic', and they were having a rather personal moment. But since a hug hadn't seemed to be of any use, they would probably have to do something bigger. And there was only one thing he could think of.
Please, please don't kill me for this. He thought as he decided to take advantage of their current position to pull her in and kiss her just as the torch went out.

Avani puzzled over what to do next, knowing that Ishimaru was actually enjoying his time with her made her happy. But she couldnt really tell if Ishimaru actually meant it, sure he had said it but if he didnt mean it ... well then nothing would happen. She looked about for something to happen, but when nothing did she looked back at him. When Avani noticed his blush she nearly pulled her hand away.
"Im sorry! I didnt mean to make you..." Avani stopped when he pulled her closer and kissed her, for a moment she thought her heart had melted. Once the torch was out she heard something move, then there was a faint glow that began to get brighter and brighter.
"Oh wow, look at those crystals! Their beautiful!" She got back to her feet and held out a hand to help Ishimaru up, Avani couldnt help but smile. Her cheeks were bright pink as she remembered what had happened.

Ishimaru's heart was racing at a mile a minute after he kissed Avani. His face was burning red, and there was even a slight tremble going through his body. It wasn't as if the experience was unpleasant. In fact, it was because it felt pleasant that he was feeling so nervous and disheveled afterwards. He felt a little better when he noticed Avani's face was just as bright pink as his, though the fact she said nothing about it made him feel a little worse.
"I, I, I hope I wasn't being so straight forward with that. It was just that, uhm, it seemed to be the perfect thing to do you know. A kiss in the dim light after a personal conversation seemed to me to be the best way to do something loving." He said in a massive rush as he stood up, avoiding Avani's hand. After the kiss, he was deathly afraid anything he did might be considered another attempt to do it (with his brain fried by this point, he was rather paranoid).
He noticed the crystals on the roof, and found himself rather disappointed that apparently the kiss had been for nothing, at least in rectifying their situation. The statement must have been referring to them, not any particular action.
"Uhm, I think those crystals lead somewhere by the looks of it. They are formed like a path or something."

When Ishimaru avoided her hand she quickly pulled it back and distanced herself from him for a bit, it was a little bit hurtful to her but Ishimaru probably wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Thinking about that made her want to do the same thing, but she knew that she had a duty to do and couldnt just sulk around after a little bit of rejection.
She headed past Ishimaru to go and check out the pathway for herself. She gazed up at the ceiling, the crystals were beautiful and bright. But she couldnt help but think about the kiss, if Ishimaru really didnt want kiss her then he wouldnt have. So perhaps Ishimaru didnt mind Avani that much. Only time would ever tell, but she made a note of it in her mind to NEVER tell Zhang. The fire bender would never let them live it down.

Ishimaru followed behind Avani at a comfortable distance, which in his case meant over ten feet away. He knew he had probably hurt Avani's feelings by doing so, but right now, he'd rather be facing the Fire Lord then face the total awkwardness that would result from speaking with her about it. Then again, the monks had always told him to face his fears, not avoid them. And eventually, one way or another, they would have to confront this
"Uhm, Avani..." He said rather weakly,"I'm, uh, I'm, uh...you're right. These crystals are quite lovely. They kind of look like ice, but, uhm, more blue. Kind of like your coat."
I am the biggest idiot in the world right now. Ishimaru thought. Even if he had no clue about some of the more sublte aspects of society, he knew when people were beating around the bush. And boy was he beating around it big time. He just hoped that when they got out here they could cover it up in front of Zhang because he would never let it down.

Avani`s eyes were fixed on the crystals until she heard him say her name. She turned her head to face Ishimaru and she looked at him expectantly. He had hardly said a word so he was quite curious to know what he had to say.
"Oh, I never thought about that." Avani looked at her coat for a moment then looked back at Ishimaru, "Lets not mention this to Zhang, I know for a fact he cant keep his mouth shut."

"That would be the least of our concerns with him. Just think of the torment he would give us over it." He said rather quietly.
For the rest of the trip through the caves Ishimaru was quiet. He had never thought his life would turn out like this. Not only was he travelling with the Avatar, he had kissed her...and sort of liked it. He still didn't think it a good idea to try and pursue any kind of romantic relation, but, the fact that it seemted there was a possibility of it just made him feel strange.
Eventually a light began to appear, and the light of a sunset was filtering into the cave. They were getting close to the exit, and since his face was no longer feeling as if it were on fire, he assumed that he was no longer blushing. He sure hoped so because that seemed to be something Zhang could spot a mile away.

Avani took a deep breath to calm herself down, she knew that her face was still probably a little bit on the red side. And if it stayed like that Zhang would probably assume they did something. Even though Zhang didnt seem like he was the smartest guy on the planet he sure did notice the most embarrassing things.
"Y-Yeah... I dont know.. maybe he wouldnt torment us. He has a girlfriend so I`m sure hes had his fair share of awkward experiences. But still thats not a risk I`m going to take." Avani laughed, she wanted to tell Zhang but wouldnt for Ishimaru`s sake.
After a couple more minutes of walking they were finally outside, where Zhang, Suppo, and Yasuo were waiting for them. Avani waved to them once she stood in the light, she felt blind from being in the dark cave for so long.
"What took you two so long?" Zhang asked.
"We got lost." Avani replied, then looked back to make sure Ishimaru was still coming.

"Yeah, there badgermoles messing with us by changing the layout of the place on us." Ishimaru said as he exited the cave. His eyes were closed, and he was rubbing them. The light was pretty painful after being stuck in the cave for so long. It would take a few minutes before he could regain full ability to see.
Once he did, he walked over to Suppo to make sure that his bison wasn't injured. She looked to be in good conditon. No scratches, bruises, or burns on her. She gave him a playful lick, which meant he was covered in a nice layer of bison spit. As he worked to get it off, he started to talk to Zhang.
"I hope your travels were, uhm, uneventful." Ishimaru asked.
